Style snippets: Sellers will want to buy into the consignment shop boomlet — TwinCities.com

The latest buzz in shopping news comes from the suburbs, and the hype is all about consignment stores.

Business has been going so well that the Lived in Room in Stillwater needed more room. So, after eight years, the consignment shop selling gently used, upscale furniture and home decor has moved for the third time, the latest spot being near Stillwater Area High School.

Owner Celine Brandon says the new space (5620 Memorial Ave. N.; 651-342-0195; thelivedinroom.com) is 1,000 square feet larger than the previous one, allowing her to carry more merchandise and a larger variety.

«We used to have to turn away sellers,» Brandon says. «Now, we should be able to accommodate them.»

The shop continues to carry such labels as Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, Ethan Allen, Thomasville and Ballard Designs. Vintage painted furniture and repurposed furniture are also part of the stockpile.

Plum Plus Size is open in Columbia Heights (2301 37th Ave. N.E.; 763-788-7588; plumsplussize.com) near Stinson Boulevard. The store offers gently used clothing ranging from casual to formal wear in sizes extra large to 5X. Labels include Lane Bryant, Ellen Tracy and Eileen Fisher. Congrats to Your Turn consignment in Blaine (3453 Lake Drive; 763-786-5166; yourturnconsignments.com), which is ringing in its one-year anniversary with a sale. Look for 15 percent off everything in the store Sunday, Oct. 7, and Monday, Oct. 8. Pieces include furniture, home decor items, housewares and more.

A sign in the former Aura restaurant space in Minneapolis’ Calhoun Square (3001 Hennepin Ave.) states Francesca’s Collections, the apparel and accessories shop carrying Dolce Vita, Kelsi Dagger and more, will arrive soon. Calhoun Square general manager Ken Seifert says to expect a mid-November opening date.

The Texas retailer featuring women’s clothing, jewelry, handbags and shoes has been expanding in Minnesota over the years. Other Francesca’s locations include Rosedale Center in Roseville, Woodbury Lakes in Woodbury, Mall of America in Bloomington and Southdale Center in Edina.

While we’re on the subject of new shops at Calhoun Square, Seifert says an opening date is not available on the new H&M, but he says the Swedish retailer will take up two stories midblock on Hennepin Avenue.

Fans of Missoni, take note: As part of the StyledLife’s sixth-year anniversary celebration, the accessories shop in the Galleria in Edina (3410 Galleria; 952-928-8888; styledlife.com) will host a Missoni trunk show with rare discount specials.

The show will offer the latest in scarves from the Italian design house’s current and spring collections. Look for 20 percent off second or multiple purchases of Missoni scarves during the event, which will run during store hours Thursday, Oct. 11, through Sunday, Oct. 14.

Also, specials on pieces from Roberto Mantellassi, the Italian leather designer known for bracelets, belts and handbags, will be featured during this time.
